I has CAKE!

  • Apr. 22nd, 2008 at 10:13 PM
fruit, saucy, cooking
Today I made the most excellent and moist orange cake. Dense and satisfying. It is WONDERFUL and highly recommended. And - it's wheat, gluten* and dairy free! Recipe is almonds, eggs and sugar basically - with pulped citrus fruit. I'm sure I could turn it into a half decent lemon drizzle cake too.

You have to make this one. Seriously good.

*if you use g/f baking powder

If you eat chocolate, this is worth a look. It uses butter but I don't see any reason why non-dairy marge wouldn't work.

That looks amazing - thank you!

I shall make it with butter. I mentioned the dairy free thing above because there seem to be a lot of dairy intolerant folk on my friends list.

I just have to avoid the wheat - which is why good dense satisfying recipes that don't use w/f flour are very gratefully received.

I'm not sure how much treat allowance you get. There *might* be some left on Thursday if you are passing this way...

The trouble with allowances on commercial diet plans and home-made cake is that it's hard to work out how much to actually allow yourself. Much easier with a bought cake as it has the nutritional info on the side, or might be in the diet company's database.

I shall bear your lovely recipe in mind though next time I'm catering for other people though, it sounds fabulous.

This week we are mostly eating M&S chocolate birthday cake, which is pretty good for a bought cake.

This weekend I plan on making WeightWatchers flapjack - although will simplify the over-complicated recipe.

Ooh, that sounds so good. Methinks I should buy in some wheat-free ingredients and give it a whirl.

I made a lovely dense chocolatey cake last week which, while not wheat-free, had goat's butter and carob powder in it. It was so treacley and moreish!

Are you free on Friday? I'm plotting to have some form of DVD night if I'm well, and I have a lovely £400 keyboard and can arrange for cake... :)
